ANNOUCEMENT OF THE DEATH OF MR ELIAS CHIPIMO SENIORIt is with a deep and profound sense of regret that I announce the death of my father, Mr. Elias Chipimo Senior. Dad died just after 8:00hrs this morning surrounded by five of his seven children. He died knowing that he is dearly loved and will always be cherished for being the best father his children could have wished for.I want to thank everyone that stood in support in good wishes and prayer during this very difficult time for our family.May God bless you all abundantly and may you continue to pray for and with us as we mourn and prepare to lay our father to rest.Elias C. ‘Chipimo was a great man’ 27 01/ 2015rPALL-BEARERS carrying Elias Chipimo Snr’s casket during the requiem mass at St Ignatius Church.MINISTER of Justice Ngosa Simbyakula has described the death of former Lusaka Province minister and diplomat Elias Chipimo Snr as a great loss.Speaking during a requiem mass at Lusaka’s St Ignatius Church yesterday, Dr Simbyakula said the country has lost a great man who made a significant contribution.Dr Simbyakula said it is difficult to accept the demise of Mr Chipimo Snr but the fact that it is the will of God should be a consolation.“Our mourning should be a celebration because he sacrificed and fought to ensure that the country attains its independence,” he said.Speaking earlier, his son Elias Chipimo Jnr said the family will greatly miss himMr Chipimo Jnr who is also National Restoration Party (NAREP) president said his father was a jovial man who loved to laugh with everyone.He said his father loved his family and taught all his children how to be independent at an early stage.He said his father was a man of rare moral courage who loved to speak the truth and his legacy will be a reminder to ‘us that men of integrity do exist.’The funeral was attended by a number of prominent people among them former presidents Kenneth Kaunda and Rupiah Banda and former first lady Maureen Mwanawasa.Also in attendance were Minister of Finance Alexander Chikwanda, Acting chief justice Lombe Chibesakunda, Lusaka mayor Mulenga Sata and Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini.Several leaders of political parties, members of the diplomatic corp, the clergy and senior government were also in attendance.Mr Chipimo Snr who died on January 18 in South Africa after an illness was buried at his farm in Lusaka’s New Kasama yesterday.He is survived by six children and several grandchildren.
